It’s Not About Us
I’ve had a lot of trouble lately being able to eloquently put into words the things that I feel in my heart…
And, then a friend sent me this video:
And, it tells so perfectly what I feel.
We get asked “Why are you adopting?” so frequently. People seem to be curious as to why we would choose to adopt when we have no issue conceiving our own children and adoption comes with financial burden. I absolutely love this question and yet I dread it all at once… I haven’t seemed to be able to get the emotions and thoughts that bubble forth from my heart into words that adequately portray our “why.” So often, I don’t know what to say, because the truth is this… I’m still asking why God chose us.
We aren’t adopting to add another place-mat around our kitchen table (we have an easier way of doing that…) and it’s not about us feeling important or special.
Actually, it’s not about us at all.
It’s about Him. It’s about Jesus.
It’s about love.
It’s about loving the “least of these,” because if not us, then who?
It’s about the Gospel.
It’s about a sea of beautiful faces who are also sons and daughters of God and should never be forgotten. Never.
It’s about so much more.
And through adoption, we realize how we were REDEEMED through Christ’s blood. We were RESCUED. We have been adopted. We are God’s children. And, in this beautiful love story interwoven with many tales of adoption, how can we say “no” to what our God has so clearly asked of us?
This isn’t about us. It’s not “our story.” It’s His story. We just said yes.
