Oh for your sake I hope that it's not a milk allergy. Eliminating that seems like a major hassle!

Hope these 2 weeks fly by for you...

@steven - I so hope it's not dairy
@ZJ - She has a bit of darkness under her eyes anyhow, because she has seasonal allergies (like me) and all that jazz. The only food allergies I really have are to kiwi so, yeh. Everything else has been medications or pet dander or dust and outside stuff. And, my eyes also do the dark thing some - although it's not as bad as some folks I've seen.

I heard about soy and estrogen and wow. I really need to do some research but right now I'm not ready to jump into it just yet. And, I don't really follow the belief system that just b/c other ppl do it, I should too ---YET I also know you generally are pretty thorough with your research, too - so, I'm not sure that's exactly all you have to say about that (soy)? :D

Oh, I'm SO sorry I forgot to email you back. Okay. First of all, there are vegan cheeses that you can use - they don't melt that well (some not at all), so you'd have to get used to the different texture, or do what other families do and portion out a dairy free bit for her and continue to add in dairy to yours and the hubby's.

Secondly, I know you're squeamish about soy, but people HAVE been ingesting it in various forms for like, ever, so...

Rice, soy, hemp, almond and coconut milks can be subbed in for nearly any recipe that calls for regular milk.

I totally approve of the elimination diet as a way to measure her sensitivity, but know this: it takes AT LEAST 2 weeks for dairy to leave her system completely and that's if she's getting a completely clean diet (and depending on who you ask, if there's no traces in products you might use on her).

So, don't consider adding it back in for at least 2 weeks and then at specific times when you can gauge her reaction. When she's had a clean palette, it should be fairly quick, within a few hours, if she's going to have one.

The thing about dairy allergies in kids is that there tends to be more than one symptom, others include: allergenic shiners (bags under the eyes/dark circles), breathing issues, digestive distress after consuming, tummy aches, crankiness in relation to having it recently, ear and sinus infections, extreme or long-winded colic in newbies, etc.

So, stick it out...it's only two weeks and then hopefully, within a day or two, you'll know that she's FINE. It was just a freak rash.
