You know that antique dining set that I posted a while ago? No. Wait. Let’s start by me saying how much I hate flakiness. It gets on my nerves, and I do not have the time for it. Let’s also say that I DO NOT sit on my but JUST IN CASE people should come by. I got over that one in high school. You either have plans with me, or you don’t. It’s that simple, really - I’m not desperate for ANYONE or ANYTHING that I’m just going to wait beside the phone all day. Unless you’re God or Jesus, but this story has nothing to do with either (unless it’s about God’s sick sense of humor. I know I know. I’m sorry. You have a plan…)
Anyways, I got another email AFTER the spam incident from a guy - let’s call him Ass. So, Ass emails me off of Craigslist, wanting to know if I could send pictures (more and bigger files) to him, as the Craigslist pictures just weren’t doing it for him. I happily obliged. I really wanted this set sold! He knew the price outright - $1600. Easy. So, he “makes plans” to come down here (from another town, another state) sometime THIS week (this was last week). So, I make a few phone calls to make sure SOMEBODY could be here with me, seeing as there would be man (that I don’t know) in my home. And, although I’m not so much afraid for my safety (as I have a gun and have no problem shooting Asses, generally)…but, I do have my daughter that I’m very protective of. I have someone arrange to be here, and then…the guy suddenly decides that although he’s planned on being here and the money wasn’t an issue…well, suddenly it is now. He says that there is just NO WAY that he afford it. Especially with the cost of moving the set. (Whatever. All you need is a truck or two. Or, a really small moving van. You pick.) So, me being an idiot, emails him back - asking him what WOULD be a price he could pay (afterall, up to this point, he had not even tried to negotiate with me…at all). He tells me “$1,000″, and I tell him that there is just no way, but I would drop it down to $1300 if he were a guaranteed buyer. Guaranteed Buyer. You know what that means, guys? It means you are GUARANTEEING you will buy. No more horseshit. His reply? “Sold!”
So, I tell the guy to choose a day and a time, and I would mark it down - by the weekend. He shoots an email back saying he’d be coming Thursday (this coming Thursday), but makes no mention of time. So, I shoot him back an email, asking him once again to make a time - only to choose between 2pm and 7pm and let me know. BY SUNDAY. Sunday comes and goes…so I give him until Monday. After still hearing nothing, I decided to email him and let him know that since I hadn’t heard anything from him AT ALL, I was making other plans - and, that if he should still be interested, he can come on a Saturday later in the month, when it’s more convenient for ME. I’m not going to have someone drive all the way into town just to watch my daughter and him not show. That’s ridiculous! And, I’m not going to wait around my house all afternoon for someone that may or may not come by. That means I can’t start any new projects, can’t run errands, can’t do whatever and whenever because someone MAY (NOT) come!
A few hours later, my phone rings. Ass calling. He’s frantic because he supposedly just hired someone to come here and a truck and all that…and now I was canceling? Oh no! So, I reverted my new plans back to the old ones and made my necessary arrangements…Again. He would be here at 2 PM. And, then…at 12:30 AM, I get this email:
“I have been online pricing rental trucks. The cheapest rental I can find is going to cost me 300 in mileage+the rental fee+fuel costs+plus labor. Unfortunately this will come to more than 600 out of pocket. As much as I hate to do this; I just can’t buy your set at this time. I am just going to have to be patient and the right set will come along here in [ASSTOWN]. Im so sorry.”
Dude. I’ve changed my plans 3 x for you already. I am not lowering the price again. And, I’m also not an idiot - it does not cost 600 dollars to get a Uhaul truck from your town to my town - especially if you GET the Uhaul truck HERE, drop it off THERE and get one of your man-friends to help you out. This set is not THAT heavy or THAT big. My husband and an old guy at the store loaded into their trucks by themselves.
Ass.
(So, mom…I guess this means our plans are back on - Regardless of any emails or frantic phone calls that I may get from Ass in Asstown.

It’s hard to make transactions in Craigslist. Well, that’s only my opinion. I had been scammed once but after a while, I finally got a cool client that I deserve.
I think you also should make it clear to your clients that you are not Walmart and you are a normal person who is awake in the morning and asleep at night. We do meet this kind of people sometimes.
Heads up Mommy. There’s a lot of good customers out there who’s willing to buy the price that you’ve set.

Ugh. I feel for you babe. I hate, hate, hate Craigslist and dealing with most people when it comes to them buying my stuff.
I remember I spent all morning sorting and laying out the girls baby clothes just to have the lady phone AFTER her arrival time and cancel. Or the next lady who came in a bought nothing. NOTHING. Out of at least 500 pieces of barely worn, beautiful stuff all priced at one dollar….
Never again.

Ugh….I’m so sorry to hear. I find Craigslisters to be incredibly cheap. When we had to sell our dining set in California, we had something similar happen. A couple came and tried to negotiate a new price for an hour! Like we were car salesman
Hope you find some credible buyers that won’t give you the run around.
